Projects with a large scope of works enable Integrated Fire Services to employ a holistic design approach that maximises the value received by our clients. Some projects that we have worked on that have required comprehensive works across each of the design, implementation and operational phases include:

  •  SCA Box Hill
  •  SCA Springvale
  •  Philip Morris Limited
  •  Don KRC
  •  105 Corio Quay Rd

SCA, Box Hill

Formerly Carter Holt Harvey and Bowater, Scott is large tissue manufacturing site which had been developed since the 1960s.  It was identified that the fire services was inadequate in a number of areas and the insurance company had provided instructions that the risks needed to be managed.

With a budget of over$3 million the fire services was upgraded with new fire pumps and ring mains all in accordance with FM Global design requirements.  All storage warehouse were upgraded with high performance sprinkler systems (ESFR) together with 15 new sets of control valves.

All work was required to be undertaken with the factory operating all shifts and warehouse and work areas were cleared for the shortest practical time.

Integrated Fire Services designed the systems, provided the necessary report to all authorities and worked with management throughout the project.  All work was supervised by IFS who would attend site daily to manage impairments and reinstatements.  The work was undertaken on time and under budget due to the high level of cooperation between all parties and a willingness to provide an excellent outcome.

SCA, Springvale

SCA, a large manufacturing facility consisted of raw material and finished goods warehouses that required new fire sprinklers so that "in rack" sprinklers were not needed.

The company engaged IFS to design new fire services throughout the site.  The design used high performance sprinkler systems and retained existing services where possible.  To save costs alternative solutions were sought from the fire brigade and the building surveyor.

IFS was also engaged to review the works and commission the new high performance sprinkler system and high powered diesel pumps.  Compliance reports and completion documentation was also provided as part of the complete package.

Significant cost savings included the retention of a single tank, use of the existing underground combined hydrant main (under sized), deletion of "in rack" sprinklers to high piled storage.  Works were undertaken when the factory was in full operation.

Philip Morris Limited, Morrabbin

The Philip Morris manufacturing facility was refurbished with new equipment and a realignment of the production to provide a more sustainable and efficient process.  IFS was engaged to design, implement and ensure operational readiness for the complete upgrade of the fire services.  The works complied with current regulations and also met the more stringent insurance company requirements.  This included new fire pumps, water tank, fire mains, sprinkler control valves, fire indicator panels and alarm systems.

IFS was given the challenge of designing the works over a four year period while the facility continued to manufacture goods.  We worked closely with a team of consultants and contractors undertake this difficult task.  High levels of planning, communication and team work was required to achieve the required outcomes.

A cost effective fire services design was provided that not only provided high levels of fire safety but was able to use alternative and practical solutions to many problems not faced by a green field site.

Don KRC Castlemaine

This large regional manufacturing factory required a major extension and renovation to the existing facility.  All works were required to be of a high standard (industrial quality - food processing) requiring a additional detailing and design to describe the complexities for implementation.

IFS worked with a large team of consultants to provide a detailed design and specifications for all fire services.  Don KRC saved millions of dollars in rationalised design through fire safety engineering (analysis included using 3D fire modelling).  Stakeholders included the fire brigade that accepted the removal of mechanical smoke exhaust in lieu of a comprehensive fire zone identification system.

The work was undertaken in a number of stages which needed to be co-ordinated to meet dead lines and budgets.  The total installed cost the fire services was well under budget even though the level of detailing and design was higher than predicted.

Quicksilver Distribution Centre - Geelong

An existing warehouse was converted into a major distribution centre for Quicksilver.  A new warehouse was added to the existing warehouse to meet the growing needs of the tenant and expand it's storage capacity.

IFS was engaged to design and manage the implementation of the fire services and safety for the site.  The works included new pumps, water tank and underground mains.  The existing sprinkler system was modified to allow for high palletised storage without the need for "in rack" sprinklers.  The new warehouse was also provided with high performance sprinkler heads that would allow a large amount of combustible goods to be stored without the need for rack sprinklers.

Fire engineering was also provided to remove the need for mechanical smoke exhaust and reduce the need for multiple exits and fire tunnels.

IFS provided the design, inspection and commissioning of all fire services as a complete package working closely with all contractors to achieve the project objectives.
